Job Summary

The Yukon Art Society seeks a Programming and Communications Manager who is community-minded, passionate about the arts, and interested in working with artists, art patrons, and the public to promote the visual arts in the Yukon. We are also looking for someone who is a team player and has demonstrated potential to be an inspirational leader.

The Programming and Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating public visual arts programming and assisting with marketing, public relations, and advertising. Tasks include:

  • Planning, implementing and evaluating a wide variety of programming including art workshops/classes, events and special projects, within the approved annual budget
  • Preparing reports on all programming activities
  • Exploring and developing programming partnerships
  • Maintaining art studio and equipment
  • Managing    volunteers, contractors, and temporary staff
  • Researching, preparing, and submitting funding proposals and fulfilling all obligations of funding agreements
  • Managing facility and equipment rentals
  • Managing social media presence
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and periodic review of a comprehensive marketing strategy
  • Assisting with the daily operations, maintenance, and promotion of the Arts Underground facility
  • Hosting of art exhibit receptions

This position reports to the Executive Director / Curator.

 Duration: Permanent

Start Date: As soon as possible

Rate of Pay: $20.00/hour

Weekly Hours: 30 hour/week including alternating Saturdays. The position works occasional additional hours and evenings.

Essential Qualifications: (if you possess these, ensure they are documented in your resume)

  • Diploma or degree in arts/not-for-profit administration, visual/fine arts, graphic design, art education, communications, or a related field
  • Graphic design training or experience with the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Marketing and social media training or experience

Applicants with a suitable combination of education and experience (for example, art training combined with significant work experience in office administration or program delivery) will also be considered.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Innovative and passionate about the arts

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability:  (these skills would be an asset, but aren’t mandatory, if you possess them ensure they are documented in your resume) 

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Financial management skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of northern culture and the Yukon arts community
