Intro to Pottery - Level II

Course Description
Once you have taken Beginner level I Pottery you ready for this course. During these next seven weeks, you learn to refine your skills and begin to form various shapes and structures on the wheel. You now have the opportunity to graduate from making simple mugs to plates, bowls, tall vases and lids and spouts with different structures, shapes and textures. As you become more efficient on the wheel, the instructor can work with you one-on-one in specific areas of interest.

Course Details
 - Program takes place during the fall, winter and spring seasons. 
 - Instructed by various instructors
 - 7 sessions/ weeks, each session is 3 hours
 - $325 plus GST
 - Maximum of 8 participants
 - Ages 14 and over are welcome
 - Previous experience is required

Course Outline
Week One
 - Studio, safety and equipment review
 - Course overview
 - Wheel throwing and centering review
  - Project and play time - Four cylinders the same size
 - One-on-one with instructor 
Week Two
 - Review previous session and practice
 - Review making handles and attachments
 - Demonstration and play time - bowls
 - Critique activity - bring in favourite mug
 - One-on-one with instructor
Week Three
 - Review previous session and practice
 - Demonstration - Lids
 - Project and play time - Cream and sugar set with tray
 - One-on-one with instructor
Week Four
 - Review previous session and practice
 - Demonstration - teapots and attachments
 - Project and play time - create your own teapot
 - One-on-one with instructor
Week 5
 - Review previous session and practice
 - Demonstration - large bowl 
 - Project and play time - throwing larger scale vessels
 - One-on-one with instructor
Weeks 6 + 7
 - Demonstration - decorating
 - Glazing and finishing work
 - Show and tell
