Surface Design - Ceramics

Course Description
Surface design is about 2D visual imagery and texture. Typically, you see surface designs in woven patterns, paper goods, prints, repeat patterns, paintings, illustrations etc. all usually on flat surfaces. During this course, we look at redefining 3D form using surface design. You will be shown tools and techniques used to create various details in clay and be given lots of playtime to further explore these ideas. All exercises and explorations in this course will help you translate your own ideas or surface designs in the future.

This course is beneficial to all ceramicists; hand builders and throwers. If you have a background in any other form of visual art or craft this course is a great stepping stone to help you combine the two and recognize the importance of both practices.
