Playing with Creative Muse - Acrylic Painting

Course Description
This course focuses on experimentation, which cultivates a creative imagination to break through artistic barriers. This course will help you struggle less and inspire a fun practice for yourself; Lillian believes art does not have to be a struggle but a fun and relaxing process. You will experiment with a variety of techniques, materials and tools all while learning to apply the elements and principles of design. If you want to improve your artistic skills and learn to create an attractive body or work this process is highly beneficial.

Learn How To:
- Apply 2D and visual texture to a painting
- Properly use palette knives
- Incorporate the “creative process” to your practice
- Use pastes and mediums in a painting
- layout and compose an attractive painting
- Paint using acrylics
- Paint abstractly
- Use the elements and principles of design
- Create a painting using a layering method

Course Outline
Week One
- Introduction to tools and materials
- Discussion: matte medium, glazing fluid, acrylics and mediums
- Demonstration + Activity: using watercolour paper
- Activity: experimenting with acrylics and mediums
- Demonstration + Activity: “wet on wet”, washes, resists and layering
- Activity: experiments with techniques
- One on one with instructor
Week Two
- Introduction to modeling paste
- Demonstration + Activity: preparing the canvas
- Activity: building a painting using techniques from session 1
- One on one with Instructor
Week Three
- Introduction to composition
- Discussion: incorporating the elements of design
- Discussion: composing a creative “hook” in a painting
- Activity: developing and highlighting a hook in your own painting
- Show and tell: discuss your own likes and dislikes about the process and piece.

- 3 canvas boards, 5" x 7"
- Picture references to paint
- 1 sheet of watercolour paper, 20" x 30", 140lb
