Sullivan Bond | Faces of The Street

Sullivan Bond
Faces of The Street

Edge Gallery, June 3 - 21, 2022

Sullivan Bond is an 18-year-old Whitehorse local who has recently graduated from FH Collins.

This photography collection focuses on street photography which features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents in public places. Sullivan hopes with this collection, the viewer will create their own narrative. Sullivan enjoys taking photos on trips down south because of the diversity that cityscapes offer.

To Sullivan, photographing people on the street is like a safari. As he roams the streets of Vancouver and Calgary, camera at the ready, he keeps his eyes open for humorous situations, intriguing expressions, ironic moments, and touching interactions.

It’s exciting and personally rewarding for Sullivan to make a photograph, a moment in time that is unique. With the click of the shutter, a street image is captured, one that has never been seen before and will likely never be observed again.

Sullivan is often asked: "Do you get permission to take these photos?". On occasion he will engage with the person being photographed. Sometimes, people are aware of Sullivans presence as he’s about to shoot, however most often his images are candid. For Sullivan, street photography is distinct from street portraiture. If he asks permission, the “moment” would likely be lost.

Sullivan hopes to attend photography school and build his portfolio to eventually create his own photography books. Sullivan is grateful to Arts underground for the opportunity to show his work publicly.
