Ceramics Studio

There is a maximum of eight people able to book in our studio at a time. This is because we have eight wheels available for use. If the time you are trying to schedule is unavailable, that means this limit has been reached. If you’re not intending to use a wheel (ie. you’d like to work on hand-building or glazing) and the studio is fully booked, please check in with staff to see if we’d be able to fit you in. When you are booking a time, please note that the time you book is for one person only. If multiple people in a household would like to use the studio for drop-in, they each will need to book a reservation.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to your appointment without informing staff in advance, it may be forfeited and you will be marked as a no-show.

To ensure we are able to accommodate as many people as possible, we ask that you please start cleaning your workstation a few minutes before your scheduled time is up so you can leave on time, and allow the next person to start working.

Open Ceramics Studio

$5/hour | ages 18+

Open Ceramics Studio hours are great for individuals who want to practice what they learned in a ceramics course and to hone their skills! There is no instruction provided during drop-in, participants must have ceramics experience to work independently. Open studios are great to learn from each other and to connect. Studio Monitors are in studio as non-instructional support for the Arts Underground studio and procedures should you have any questions. Participants are welcome to use our studio tools and equipment.

All clay must be purchased from Arts Underground. All clay prices includes firing and glazing fees.

Getting Started

1. Experience

Because open studio is non-instructional, we require that you have experience in the studio by taking at least our ceramic level 1 course or equivalent (minimum 21 hours of instruction)

If you feel that you have the experience, please email ceramics[at]artsunderground.ca with your ceramic studio history.

Purchase a Studio Pass. You can buy by the hour, month, 3-months or year!

3. Schedule

Schedule a Ceramics Studio Drop-in time in the calendar below. Please note that all Arts Underground paid programming takes priority over any studio bookings. You can see what’s on here. Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance.

The Ceramics Studio is currently open for scheduled use during Arts Underground’s hours of operation, and on Friday evenings from 6pm - 9pm and Sunday afternoons from 3pm - 6pm.

4. Your First Visit

On your first visit Arts Underground staff or your Studio Monitor will give you a quick orientation of the Ceramics Studio and depending on your studio pass, will provide you with a shelf for your projects.
