Join mixed media artist Esther Bordet for an evening of experimenting with India ink and coloured acrylic inks! This workshop is open to adults and younger teens who may have some interest and experience with other artistic media. However, no particular drawing skills are required.
Ink is a wet medium, and is extremely reactive and unpredictable, which is why the experimentation part of this workshop is so important. No matter how much experience you have with inks, you will never be able to fully control the outcome. At least, tricks can be learned to create specific effects. For example, we will see the difference between using a wet or dry paper surface. We will also see how we can obtain a lustrous shine by applying several layers of inks. In contrast, ink can retain a lot of transparency when diluted with water, and look similar to watercolours.
We will be using a set of tools, including nib pens and brushes. We will also experiment with dripping or splashing techniques – working with inks can be very detailed and controlled, or very random and messy!
Each participant may bring a photo of a subject they would like to draw, as an inspiration for a piece of art they could take home. Other images will be available for inspiration, so you don’t have to come with a specific subject in mind! In fact, those who are simply drawn by the wonderful random effects that can be obtained with inks may spend the entire workshop experimenting with abstract shapes.
