Do you want to take your oil painting and observation skills a step further? Whitehorse artist Nicole Bauberger is offering this 5-week workshop to share the way she learned to paint from observation in oils over a 5-year apprenticeship and assistant painter position in an artist’s studio in Peterborough, Ontario. Participants will bring a photograph to work from and a surface they want to paint it on (canvas, board, etc.). We will grid the board and surface, and use techniques of abstraction to observe each smaller square closely and interpret it in oils.

Supplies
All supplies will be provided, except for your painting surface. You may choose the type of surface (e.g. stretched canvas, wood panel, hardboard) as well as the specific dimensions, but a size of approximately 9”x12” is ideal. Arts Underground offers a variety of boards and canvases that you can shop for in person or online (https://arts-underground.myshopify.com/collections/panels-and-canvas), or you can bring your own from home.
