This watercolour workshop will teach the fundamentals of loose watercolour painting, keeping details to a minimum and focusing on using a loose, interpretive style. This way of watercolour painting is very expressive, and a lot of fun!
The instructor will give a demonstration, and teach a few techniques and tips to achieve a loose style, expressive style. The workshop will focus on the overall shapes, colours, lost and found edges, splatter and expressive calligraphy.
We will focus on having fun with colours, experimenting and learning from our successes and then what to do if we have made a mistake.
Come prepared to experiment, let go of expectations, have fun and learn a few new techniques. These methods are great for doing quick watercolour sketches outside too.
Everyone will have ample time to play with the paints and create. Everyone should be able to complete a painting by the end of the class to take home.
Notes about this workshop:
After March 18, 2022, Arts Underground will continue to require masking and proof of vaccination for individuals taking part in workshops in the studio. For individuals visiting only the store and galleries, we will still require masks at all times. Proof of vaccination in this instance will not be required. The Government of Yukon has authorized businesses and non-profits to establish their own rules regarding masking and proof of vaccination.
The reason for proof of vaccination in the Studio is that Studio participants will be working in close quarters in an area that is not optimally ventilated. Exceptions to the rules are the now widely publicized medical conditions. We hope you will understand and accept our desire to keep both staff and visitors safe during the pandemic.
All materials will be supplied, however if you have your own paints and brushes, please bring those along.
The demo will be of flowers, if students would like to bring photos of flowers they wish to paint, they are encouraged to do so. Otherwise, they can use the instructor's reference photo.
Students are encouraged to bring a hair dryer if they are able to do so.
