Martha Jane Ritchie
Spring is for the Birds

The EDGE Gallery, MARCH 6 - June 27, 2020

Despite the harshness of the Yukon climate, there is a huge array of birds - resilient, tough, light and free. Many live here year-round while others are passing through on migratory routes or arrive here to breed. These tiny residents of the boreal forest have inspired me to set my prints free from the usual confines of 2-dimensional art. What began as little paper birds flying has turned into complex creations of 3-dimensional birds perched on branches or stumps- creating a paper world.
