with Chris Scherbarth

Handbuilding Mugs
Instructor: Chris Scherbarth
Dates: January 9, 1-5pm (part 1) & January 30, 1-4pm (part 2)
$175/person | supplies included
Ages 14+ | maximum 7 participants (pre-registration required)

Please note that we are unable to offer refunds on workshops and programming.

In this workshop, you will learn how to make ceramic mugs from rolled out slabs of clay. In two sessions, Chris will take you through the steps of (1) creating a mug body, in two different styles; (2) making and attaching handles; and (3) decorating the “bisque-fired” mugs with ceramic glazes. At the end of the workshop, you will have two one-of-a-kind stoneware mugs to take home and enjoy.

Supplies included
Your registration fee includes Plainsman brand M340 clay (mid-temperature, smooth, plastic, semi-vitreous, buff burning, native functional stoneware), as well as the cost of glazing and firing your clay. No need to come pick it up - your supplies will be waiting for you in the studio on the first day.

Notes about this workshop

  • Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing you do not mind getting dirty

  • The process of drying, firing, and glazing ceramics requires some time and patience, especially in a busy volunteer-run studio. Because of this, it may take up to 4-5 weeks for your finished work to be ready for pickup. We will contact you when your pieces are ready!

  • Workshop registration fees are non-refundable

  • In accordance with Government of Yukon regulations, masks are mandatory for all participants who are able to wear them. To learn more about how we're staying safe in our studio, visit www.artsunderground.ca/covid-19
