Handbuilding is a great way to get into pottery, allowing you to build a multitude of shapes with a small amount of equipment and a little imagination! During this 2-session course, instructor Amberley Cooke will teach basic handbuilding techniques to make numerous possible projects, such as plant pots, mugs, and push plates. We will touch on various surface design methods including adding texture, creating texture with lace, and using underglaze.
This workshop is suitable for makers at all skill levels: some clay experience is great, but beginners will also enjoy.
Once your pieces are designed and built, you may choose from a variety of glazes to finish your pieces. Your work will be fired and completed for you. Participants can expect to walk away with 2-3 finished pieces.
Supplies included
Your registration fee includes Plainsman brand M340 clay (mid-temperature, smooth, plastic, semi-vitreous, buff burning, native functional stoneware), as well as the cost of glazing and firing your clay. No need to come pick it up - your supplies will be waiting for you in the studio on the first day.
Notes about this workshop
Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing you do not mind getting dirty
The process of drying, firing, and glazing ceramics requires some time and patience, especially in a busy volunteer-run studio. Because of this, it may take up to 4-5 weeks for your finished work to be ready for pickup. We will contact you when your pieces are ready!
Workshop registration fees are non-refundable
In accordance with Government of Yukon regulations, masks are mandatory for all participants who are able to wear them. To learn more about how we're staying safe in our studio, visit www.artsunderground.ca/covid-19
