REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED for the opening reception. However, the exhibition will be on view to the public until December 2 during KDCC’s regular operating hours.
Please join us on Saturday, November 7 for a reception and performance to celebrate the opening of Meeting by the currents: works from the 2020 Chu Niikwän Artist Residency.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, registration for this event is now full.
EVENT SCHEDULE
The afternoon will begin with a formal walking procession to the venue, followed by an outdoor gathering and dance performance, and exhibition viewing inside the cultural centre. Attendees may participate in the procession if desired, or join the event at KDCC beginning at 1:15pm.
1:00pm | Procession
Beginning at 1pm, artist Aimée Dawn Robinson will lead a formal procession of blessing, action, and reflection alongside the river from the Old Fire Hall to our final destination at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.
1:15pm | Opening Prayer, Remarks and Dance performance at KDCC Fire Pit
Please gather with us around the KDCC Fire Pit to view “Seven.” - a dance performance created by artist Aimée Dawn Robinson, dedicated to the healing of all who have suffered from police brutality.
2:15 | Artist talks in KDCC Longhouse
Following the performance, attendees can warm up in the Longhouse, and view the exhibition in their pods. At 2:15, please gather with us in the Longhouse for a brief artist talk with Asad Chishti, Robyn McLeod, Aimée Dawn Robinson, and curator Nicole Bauberger.
COVID-19 MEASURES
Attendance at this event is limited and attendees will be asked to RSVP. Please form a pod! We will observe Safe 6 measures both indoors and outdoors. Please bring your own mask if you’re able. We will have limited masks and hand sanitizers available.
The Chu Niikwän Artist Residency is funded by the Government of Yukon and jointly presented by the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, the Yukon Arts Centre and the Yukon Art Society.
