B-side Only: Yukon Bands That Never Were
Edge Gallery, September 3 - 25, 2021
We all have more great band names in mind than we have musical talent. But as visual artists, we don't have to play a single note to get a point across – album and concert art have the power to conjure distinct musical styles and political perspectives before we hear the first track. Iconic album art –like the Velvet Underground's Andy Warhol, Nirvana's Nevermind, the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen– have had a huge personal impact on so many people, and have influenced culture as much as art found in galleries.
We've combined our love of this art form with observations of Yukon life – the good, the bad, and the absurd. Based on years of terrible word plays after concerts, road trips with friends, and idle fantasies while rooting through our unwieldy music collection, this show is for everyone that has a great band name in their pocket but can't play a single note.
FMR & GORELLAUME
Gorellaume (France) draws and paints. FMR (Canada) does calligraphy and stencils. We've been doing shows together, and arguing about art and music for well over a decade now. If you want to know more, or trade music recommendations, come talk to us.
