Employment Opportunity:
Executive Director,
Yukon Art Society / Arts Underground

Location:  Whitehorse, Yukon
Hours:  20 hours/week.
Hours of work are Monday – Friday, with occasional evening and Saturday shifts
Starting Wage:  $35/hour
Duration:  Permanent (following a 6-month probationary period)

Job Description/Duties

The Yukon Art Society is a non-profit organization that fosters the creative development of Yukon artists at all levels. Through our community space, Arts Underground, we strive to offer inclusive studios and galleries where Yukoners can come together to develop their skills, explore their imaginations, and express themselves.

We’re seeking a new leader for our organization. Reporting to the volunteer Board, the Executive Director is in charge of the day-to-day management of our amazing staff, writing grants and reports, keeping the finances in order, and building strong relationships with our members and stakeholders. They will work with staff and the board to develop a long-term vision for the organization.

The ideal candidate would be a self-starter with solid financial and administrative skills, and a passion for building the Yukon’s visual arts community.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience with grant proposal and report writing

  • Management experience – including people and budgets

  • Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, financial management, and e-mail communication

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Relevant post-secondary education or comparable experience in a relevant field will be considered.

Desired Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations and/or reporting to a board 

  • Facility management and/or retail operation experience

  • Ability to think strategically, prioritize, and problem-solve

  • Ability to build positive relationships internally and externally

  • Ability to work independently and in a team situation

  • Proficiency with Quickbooks

  • Knowledge of Yukon visual artists and the Yukon arts community

  • Comfortable working in an environment with frequent interruptions

  • Experience or training in the visual arts and/or curation would be an asset
