Ceramics Level 1 is a seven-week beginners course demonstrating the steps and skills required for wheel throwing, from start to finish. This class includes learning to wedge and centre clay, throwing basic shapes and vessels, and basic dip glazing. We’ll learn the terminology and techniques to get you started so you can keep practicing on your own.

Your registration fee includes one 22 lb. bag of Plainsman brand M340 clay (mid-temperature, smooth, plastic, semi-vitreous, buff burning, native functional stoneware), as well as the cost of glazing and firing your clay. No need to come pick it up - your supplies will be waiting for you in the studio on the first day.

  • Is there a waitlist for ceramics classes?
To request to be added to the waitlist for Ceramics Level 1, email reception@artsunderground.ca

  • Where can I find information about future ceramics classes?
We do our best to offer as many workshops as our studio can accommodate, and classes are sometimes added on short notice to help meet demand. Here are two ways to hear about our workshops first:

    1. Yukon Art Society members have access to early bird registration for all of our workshops, as well as a 10% discount on registration fees. Learn more about membership at https://www.artsunderground.ca/join

    2. Sign up for our Mailing List and select Programs I am interested in > Ceramics. We will only send you emails about ceramics in our studio and you can unsubscribe at any time. Register here: http://eepurl.com/gzzEkz

  • I just took a ceramics class. When will I receive my finished pots?
The process of drying, firing, and glazing ceramics requires some time and patience, especially in a busy volunteer-run studio. Because of this, it may take up to 5-6 weeks for your finished work to be ready for pickup. We will contact you when your pots are ready!

  • Do I have to wear a mask?
In accordance with Government of Yukon regulations, masks are mandatory for all participants who are able to wear them. To learn more about how we're staying safe in our studio, visit www.artsunderground.ca/covid-19
