Using the knowledge and techniques I’ve gathered and toiled with, I represent the world around me in the best way I can. Most of my work is produced in Dawson City, where I live. As a painter, the Yukon has been a great inspiration; There’s no place like it. I have strong compulsions to extract scenes from the natural world. I’m also interested in the people and how they navigate themselves in life. Furthermore, I find the objects here - overgrown old rusty automobiles, dilapidated turn-of-the-century shacks - stand with a life of their own. With this in mind, I’m possessed to pick up my brush and record the scenes around me.

At the age of 12 my mother introduced me to the works of Juan Luna, an oil painter from the Philippines. I soon after discovered Henry Ossawa Tanner's work and was inspired to become an oil painter. Throughout my childhood I taught myself to paint and was eventually accepted at the Ontario College of Arts and Design University. After a year, however, I decided to pursue my art education elsewhere and set out to ride freight trains and journey around Asia and the West. My years living in the elements forced me to study the figures and landscapes around me, focusing on their relation to colour and light. Today, I live in Dawson City where I continue to pursue my passion in painting.
